For many years, this sheltered yacht basin located behind the 600 foot, Visiting Vessel Pier (for cruise ships and large craft) off the north tip of Cameron Island, has been a popular rendezvous site for pleasure craft. Port of Nanaimo Boat
Basin A customs-port-of-entry, over 9,000 feet of moorage is available. Limited reservations are taken. When arriving to the outside of the breakwater pier, call on VHF Channel 67, or 250-754-5053, to be directed to a berth. Moorage for smaller craft is on the floats in the vicinity of the fuel dock and in the Commercial Inlet Basin. During the summer months all of the floats are open for pleasure boats with the exception of "B" and "F" floats. 15, 30, 50, and 100 ampere shore power, fresh drinking water, water for hose-downs, and ice are available. Facilities include new showers, laundry and restrooms; 1000 pound hydraulic crane, and fuel dock where gas and diesel are available. The Eco-Barge waste pump is located alongside the floating breakwater at the marina entrance. Port of Nanaimo moorage is conveniently located in the center of the downtown area, next to a major shopping center, restaurants, hotels, theater, and casino. Mexican food and fish and chips are available on floating barges in the basin. Pioneer Waterfront Plaza, adjacent to the Commercial Inlet Basin, is a public plaza with parking and retail shops. Included are gift shops, coffee shop, ice cream/dessert shop and tea room, and First Nations handicraft store. On Fridays there is a Farmer's Market on the Plaza and a noon cannon firing takes place every day during summer months. Bus and taxi service connects with all parts of the city and other Vancouver Island communities. Westcoast Air and Harbour Air offer scheduled passenger service between downtown Nanaimo and Vancouver. The Port's Seaplane Terminal has a restaurant and pub. Wharfinger monitors VHF 67.
